Unless someone saves those poor guys, the condition would not change. Being a newbie and trapped inside a game realm takes a toll – perhaps psychologically rather physically – but asking a suspicious guild who wanted to help newbies was really dangerous. The twin knew that Shiroe was also trapped because they saw him, but not eager to ask some help. Yes, there was a guild called Hamelin who trickes newbies like Touya and Minori, the twin who just played Elder Tales and mentored by Shiroe before the expansion took effect. You cannot coerce some newbies in the town (since combat is prohibited), but you can still force them to do things. Cyber-bullying exists in MMORPG, but the Catastrophe turned the condition worse. At a glance, it did not turn into dictatorship, but what was really happening is the other way. The second problem in Akiba was that the town turned lawless, just like Susukino.
The drink serves the same pattern: no matter what color it has, or how much sugar you add into, it tastes like water. The food made looks perfect, but once you eat it, it tastes like flavorless rice crackers. The same case actually works in Elder Tales’ realm after the Catastrophe by accessing the ingredients from the Item Menu. When you play a game (whether it’s an MMORPG or Pizza Frenzy), it’s pretty easy to cook one, by simply clicking on the ingredients and recipe used.

In Elder Tales now and then, food sucks because no one knows how to cook properly. Playing the game and trapped inside the game are dissimilar, whether it’s due to the new expansion of the game. Kinda disappointed, but still a finely written one. It may be either way: the anime was a good adaptation, or the novel did not do much more than the anime. While I was expecting something ‘more’, the anime told clearly about what happened on the second volume. Maybe since I watched the anime before reading the novel, I was not really surprised reading the novel.

The second volume of Log Horizon series focuses on three things simultaneously: the revitalization plan for Akiba, Shiroe and friends’ new home, and the twin’s escape. Perhaps you’re already aware what goes on after the previous volume since the anime told us much (and well) about this. Under the title “ The Knights of Camelot”, it follows Shiroe’s journey back from Susukino after saving Serara and taking Nyanta, previously a part of Debauchery Tea Party into the group. It was released on Jby Yen ON, a subsidiary of Yen Press that focuses on light novel releases.
